Vans for Vets is envisioned as a future donation, build, and support program that responsibly converts suitable vehicles into dependable mobility and transitional living platforms.
The goal is not to romanticize homelessness or hand someone a vehicle and walk away. The responsible version combines a safe build, clear ownership, training, insurance and registration support, partner referrals, and a realistic transition plan shaped around the recipient.
Status: this is a concept in development—not yet an active donation or placement program.
A RESPONSIBLE BUILD PATH
Inspect
Qualified partners assess title, mechanical condition, safety, service life, insurance feasibility, and build suitability.
Build
A restrained build prioritizes ventilation, electrical safety, secure storage, sleep, basic power, and maintainability.
Prepare
The recipient participates in vehicle systems, budgeting, maintenance, route planning, legal parking realities, and personal goals.
Place & support
Transfer occurs only with clear documentation, partner support, follow-up, and an honest plan for what comes next.

People rebuilding stability, employment, connection, or direction after service or another major disruption.
Housing instability
People facing homelessness or displacement who may benefit from safe mobility as one part of a broader support plan.

People working toward stability while housing cost, transportation, or geography blocks opportunity.
Intentional mobile living
People choosing a lawful nomadic or seasonal path who need a safer, more capable platform and realistic preparation.
WHAT THE MISSION WOULD NEED
More than vans.

- TradesMechanics, electricians, fabricators, carpenters, inspectors, and safety-minded builders.
- MaterialsAppropriate insulation, ventilation, secure storage, power, bedding, and repairable systems.
- PartnersVeteran services, housing navigators, employers, financial coaches, insurers, and community providers.
- FundingInspection, repair, registration, insurance transition, tools, materials, and follow-up support.
NON-NEGOTIABLE
Useful help must also be responsible help.
- No vehicle accepted or transferred without qualified mechanical and safety review.
- No promise that a van solves homelessness, financial hardship, healthcare, or employment barriers by itself.
- Eligibility, ownership transfer, taxes, insurance, licensing, parking, habitation rules, and liability require professional guidance.
- Recipient dignity, agency, privacy, and informed choice must shape the program.
- Pilots should begin with experienced nonprofit, veteran-service, automotive, legal, and insurance partners.
